Norse Mythology Book Tag

Earlier this week I did my first ever meme on this blog, so I thought why not go all out and do my first ever tag too!! I first saw this tag over at Book Princess Reviews and immediatly fell in love with it, so thank you for such great answers! This tag was originally created over at Kyera’s Library so another big thank you for creating such a fab tag! I loved it so much that I decided to nominate myself (#noshame) so here goes!

The Rules

  • Link back to my original post on Kyera’s Library so I can see all your answers! (Be sure to do this via pingback, I don’t get notified if you just tag my URL)
  • Thank the person(s) who tagged you…show the community some love!
  • Obviously, come up with your wonderful answers!
  • Don’t forget to tag others to keep the tag going!

ODIN – FAVOURITE STAND ALONE

Odin is the All-Father, the leader of the Norse Gods. He is the god of wisdom, poetry, battle, death, wine, and war, among other things.

The Book Thief

My favourite book ever is a stand-alone, and it is, of course, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak which is weird because I’m not a massive historical fiction fan but this book is just amazing!! I also love a lot of YA stand-alones. The Fault in our Stars is probably my favourite out of these!

THOR – A BOOK THAT HITS YOU RIGHT IN THE FEELS

Thor is the god of thunder, weather, warriors, strength, and storms, so his might packs a punch. He is married to the beautiful Lady Sif.

Boys Don't Cry

I could include The Book Thief and The Fault in Out Stars in this category. But, instead, it just has to be Boys Don’t Cry by Malorie Blackman. This book was just incredible. Boys might not cry cry but I definitely did reading this novel!

LOKI – BIGGEST PLOT TWIST OR CHARACTER BETRAYAL

Loki is the god of mischief, thieves and thrives on chaos

Everything Everything

I was actually really surprised by the big reveal in Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon. I have seen a few people say that they were’t that shocked but I did not see the twist coming.

FRIGG – OTP

Frigg is Odin’s wife, the goddess of love, marriage, fertility and fate.

The Raven King

Adam and Ronan from The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater swiftly followed by Isabel and Cole from The Shiver Series also by Maggie Stiefvater. Can Maggie Stiefvater dictate my love life please?

HEIMDALL – FAVOURITE SECOND BOOK IN A SERIES

Heimdall is the god of loyalty, faithfulness and he is who protects the bi-frost, the bridge that connects all nine worlds.

stealing pheonix

Stealing Pheonix by Joss Stirling from The Savant Series. I really liked the first book in this series and the second followed quite a similar pattern, I just preferred the characters in the second book.

BALDUR – FAVOURITE MALE CHARACTER

Baldur is the beloved son of Odin and Frigg, twin brother of Hodor.

the hunger games

This is so hard because I have so many!! Most recently is probably Nate from One of us is Lying by Karen M. McManus. Of all time though? It might just be between Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Cedric Diggory from Harry Potter by J.K.Rowling. No, I’m sorry, I can’t choose between them!!

SIF – MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK COVER

Lady Sif is known for her beautiful golden tresses, although she is also the goddess of the harvest and is married to Thor.

the names they gave us

At the moment I am really loving the simplistic, white designs that seem to be quite current. My favourite out of these is The Names they Gave us by Emery Lord because it is just so pretty!! Away from that type of design I also love the cover of Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi.

FREY – BOOK/SERIES THAT ALWAYS MAKES YOU HAPPY

Frey is the lord of weather, god of light, summer, master of agriculture, fertility, and brother of Freya.

order of the pheonix

It just has to be The Harry Potter Series by J.K.Rowling, especially the first few books. Not only are these books just incredibly magical (excuse the pun!) they also make me really happy because one of my first reading memories is sitting on my Mum and Dad’s bed with my Mum on one side and my big sister on the other, all reading different copies of the latest Harry Potter book.

FRAYA – FAVOURITE BOOK SETTING

Freya is the goddess of love and beauty, fertility, war, wealth and growth, and sister of Frey.

harry potter

Another difficult one here because I love Hogwarts (from Harry Potter by J.K.Rowling) but I’m also very tempted by Middle Earth from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R.Tolkien. I think it has to be Hogwarts though, I was crushed when I never recieved my letter!

TYR – FAVOURITE BOOK WITH A BIG UPHEAVAL/EPIC FIGHT

Tyr is the god of war.

forever

I don’t think I’ve read that many books with epic fights in them (cue me remembering loads of them tomorrow!) Might be a bit of a cheat but I’m going to say Forever from the Shiver Series by Maggie Stiefvater because it gets very tense near the end between the wolves and the hunters.

ULLER – CHARACTER DEATH THAT AFFECTED YOU THE MOST

Uller is the god of death, winter, archery and hunting.

legend

SPOILERS AHEAD! Again, there are a lot of options (unfortunately 😭😭). Cedric Diggory from Harry Potter, Eight from The Lorien Legacies by Pittacus Lore, Augustus from John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars. Ultimately I actually can’t decide between two. The first is John Wing from Legend by Marie Lu, the way he sacrificies himself for Day just crushes me. The second is Rudy from The Book Thief  by Markus Zusak. What’s crazy about Rudy’s death is that you know it’s coming from really early on in the book but I still found myself praying it wouldn’t happen. When it did, it broke my heart.

NJORD – FAVOURITE BOOK AN EPIC JOURNEY ON WATER/OCEAN SETTING

Njord is the god of the wind and the sea.

I might have to pass this one, I’m not sure I have read a book that’s fits the criteria 🙈🙈!!

VALKYRIE – FAVOURITE STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER

The Valkyries, much like the Amazons, are strong female warriors.

deathly hallows

Ooh another difficult one but ultimately I have to go for the one and only Hermione Granger from Harry Potter by J.K.Rowling, my original inspiration!

AESIR/VANIR – FAVOURITE BOOK CREW

The Aesir and the Vanir are two groups of Norse gods, believed to be old and new gods.

raven boys

I love the crew from The Raven Cycle, they’re so cute and it’s so nice not to have a group of friends break up because of romantic relationships. More recently I also really love the group of four narrators from One of Us is Lying.

SEIPYRTS – FAVOURITE SIDEKICK (NON-HUMAN CHARACTER)

Seipyrts is Odin’s trusty eight legged steed, yes you heard that correctly – eight legs. I promise that he is the god’s horse companion and not a giant spider that he rides around on…although that would probably strike more fear in the hearts of his enemies than a pretty horse does.

chamber of secrets

Although I really like Bernie Kosar from The Lorien Legacies by Pittacus Lore, it just has to be Hedwig from Harry Potter.

I tag:

The Orang-utan Librarian

  1. Ahh great answers! i agree with everything you said! Especially about the plot twist in Everything, Everything. I thought something was off about the mother but I wasn’t expecting it to go that far! And I love Peeta 😍 AND Rudy in the Book Thief gets me every time. I don’t think I’ll ever get over that.

    1. Thanks so much…i really loved Everything Everything because it was dramatic but didn’t feel too over the top if you know what I mean! Me too with Rudy just the way Death talks about him breaks my heart, and Peeta, aah Peeta, I swear he’s perfect! 😍😍😂😂
