I’m starting September with something a bit different today because I was tagged by icebreaker694 to do the Desert Island Discs tag so thank you so much!
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
- Link back to my (BookBum’s) original post, so I can see all your answers! (Remember to do this via pingback, I don’t get notified if you just tag my url)
- Thank the person(s) who tagged you…show some love!
- Come up with your answers
- Then tag others to keep the tag going!
PREMISE OF DESERT ISLAND DISCS
You are cast away onto a remote island:
- You can bring 5 albums, what are they?
- You can bring ONE book (not including The Bible (or other appropriate religious texts) or The Complete Works of Shakespeare as they are already provided and NO SERIES), what ONE book is it?
- You can have one luxury item (it has to be inanimate and can’t help you escape the island), what is it?
So this is really difficult because I don’t necessarily listen to whole albums, more a single here and there, but if I were to pick 5 albums they would have to be:
Divide – Ed Sheeran
I love this album. I bought the CD to listen to in the car and then decided that I had to have the record too, just because I love it so much. I have liked Ed Sheeran’s music for a long, long time but for me this album is just special! I love pretty much every song (the only song I’m not so fond of is What Do I Know? but even that I find ok!) and find them great to sing along to.
Fearless – Taylor Swift
This album holds so many happy memories for me. I had just moved up to high school when it came out and I can just remember singing Our Song with my friends in PE! There was a time when I think I honestly knew every word to every song on this album and even now when one of them happens to come on, singing along just makes me feel incredibly happy.
My third choice would be soundtrack of the musical Wicked for two reasons. Firstly, I went to see Wicked on a school trip when I was in high school and it was literally one of the best experiences of my life (when the lights came on for the interval after Defying Gravity I was just sat there with tears streaming down my face!). Secondly, because I absolutely love the songs on this album, they are so catchy and make me so happy!
Daughtry – Daughtry
Another great album which would be perfect for when I’m feeling angsty on the island (it’s bound to happen!). I just think so many of the songs on this album are great to shout out with clenched fists just letting off some steam. There’s also the bonus that this album reminds me of my little sister because there have been so many times when just me and her will be belting out songs from this album in the kitchen, so that would be good too!
I’m guessing if I’m stranded on a desert island, some days I’m going to need some motivation, and I’m not sure there is anything more motivational than the song I’ll Make a Man Out of You from Mulan! I can also pictures myself striding along a beach, looking out dramatically to the sea and singing Reflection and marching around to Haircut. There is literally no end to the fun I could have with this album!!
Very predictably I would go for The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It’s my favourite book so I wouldn’t mind reading it over and over again! It would also be ideal because I reread it a few months ago and picked up on a few new things from my first read, so I feel like it’s the kind of book where every time you read it you find something new, which would keep life on the island interesting!
My luxury item would 100% be my Sadness plushie from the Disney film Inside Out. I mentioned in a previous post that I struggled a bit with moving to Uni and one of the things that really helped was when my big sister got me Sadness for Christmas (we had seen the film that summer and it really struck a chord with me, and I also fell in love with Sadness!). I’ve kept her close ever since and that wouldn’t change on the island.
(Sadness is in the car wearing a seatbelt in the picture because one time I forgot her at home when I went to uni (literally one of the saddest moments of my life when I reached into my bag and she wasn’t there 😢😢) so when my mum and sister picked me up in the car, they brought her with them, I opened the back door and there she was!)
So there’s my answers. I had a great time doing this tag so thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed!
