Later this month I will be heading back to University, and one of the things I am most excited about is seeing some of friends from Uni who I haven’t seen in ages! In the spirit of friendship, then, I decided to make a list about some of the literary characters I would love to be friends with. Interestingly, this post kind of acts like a literary inspirations/role model list as well, because obviously you should always surround yourself with positive people who make you want to be the best you can be!
Starr – The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
I recently read The Hate U Give and one of the best parts about it was discovering the narrator Starr. She is strong, brave and fiercely loves her family and friends. By the end of the novel she’s not afraid to cut negative friendship’s from her life and knows her worth. Starr would be an incredible friend to have!
Mauve – One of Us is Lying by Karen. M. McManus
I loved loads of the characters in One of Us is Lying but for me, Mauve just stuck out. She seemed incredibly cool, was tech savvy and would do anything for her sister. While on the subject of One of Us is Lying, can I be friends with Addy too?
Nina and Inej – Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Ok, a quick disclaimer, I haven’t finished this novel yet, but I’m crossing my fingers that nothing happens to ruin this friendship because I absolutely love it and would love to be a part of it! Nina and Inej look out for each other and think a lot of each other (bye bye girl on girl hate!) and one of my favourite book quotes/interactions ever is when Mathias says that Nina is ‘too much’ and Inej smoothly replies
‘maybe you’re just not enough’
Go Inej! Go Nina! Can I please be friends with you guys!?
Isabel Culpeper – Shiver series by Maggie Stiefvater
Isabel Culpeper is one of my favourite literary characters ever. Her growth and ark are beautiful. By the end of the novels, she would do anything for her friends. She is strong but also vulnerable and I would love to have her as a friend!
Samwise Gamgee – The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R.Tolkien
Bit of a different one here, but Sam literally carried his best friend up Mount Doom when he couldn’t walk anymore. Plus, he’s a Hobbit and I can relate to Hobbit’s on a spiritual level! I would definitely like to be friends with the lovely Sam.
Agatha – Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
To be honest, I would love to be part of Simon, Baz, Agatha and Penelope’s friend group, especially if it meant I got to go to Watford instead of back to Uni (#jokingnotjoking). I just love Agatha, though, because by the end of the novel, she isn’t afraid to admit what she wants and what will make her happy – living more as a Normal than a Mage. I will be a Normal friend to you Agatha!
Hermione Granger – Harry Potter series by J.K.Rowling
Please let me friends with you, Hermione! Hermione is smart , studious, bad-ass, hardworking and would do anything for her friends, from helping them with homework to getting them out of life and death situations. What more could I actually want from a friend?
So there just a few literary characters who I would love to be friends with!
Hope you enjoyed reading! Do you agree with some of my picks? Which literary characters would you like to be friends with?
As always, happy reading!
