It’s Tuesday again, so time for another top 5 as created by Shanah over atย Bionic Book Worm. This week’s topic is top 5 favourite book covers. Now, I’m not going to lie, I do like to tell myself that I am not swayed by the cover of a book. Despite this, there are some book covers that I just love more than others!
The Names they Gave Us – Emery Lord
This book cover has been a favourite of mine for a while now and was actually one of the main reasons I ended up picking up this book. I just love everything about it, the watercolour effect of the tree, the sparkles, the silver writing…it’s just so pretty. It’s also part of the trend of quite simplistic covers with white backgrounds that I am really enjoying, for example Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon (which almost, almost made it onto this list!).
Shatter Me – Tahereh Mafi
I think this book cover might be one of the first I ever fell in love with purely for aesthetic reasons. It combines so many things that I find beautiful like eyes, water, the sky and birds. I honestly just think it’s stunning!
No Matter the Wreckage – Sarah Kay
A bit different here because this is a poetry book, but look at the cover…it’s so cute!! Sarah Kay had been my favourite spoken word poet for a while when she announced the release of her book. I was so excited and was even more excited when I got my hands on it and saw the cover. I love the simplistic style of the drawings and it just perfectly matches the beautiful words contained beneath the covers!
The Book Thief – Markus Zusak
Different from The Names they Gave us and Shatter Me, I did not fall in love with the cover of The Book Thief immediately. In fact, it took me reading the whole book and falling in love with that before I came to like it. Even so, now it is one of my favourite covers, as attested by the fact that I recently bought a poster of it which is now proudly displayed on my university bedroom wall!
The Fault in Our Stars – John Green
I just couldn’t not include The Fault in Our Stars in this list. The book cover is so iconic. I just completely love how simplistic it is!
So there we have it, my top 5 book covers. I think I have found that I like mainly simplistic book covers, and that I am pretty much a sucker for anything pretty!
What are you’re favourite book covers? Are there any covers you weren’t fussed about before reading the book but after reading love them? Which books have you picked up because of the cover?
As always, happy reading!
Oh wow!! The Names They Gave Us and the Shatter Me covers are SO stunning!!!! Fantastic list! I also prefer that cover for The Book Thief than the original ๐

Yes, exactly, and a lot more often lately I have been going to the bookshop with no idea what I’m after and the cover is often the first thing I see and the thing that makes me pick the book up and have a closer look! ๐

Haha, same! Honestly, I’ve only actually read the first book in the series and wasn’t a huge fan but I have always kept it almost purely because I love the cover so much! ๐๐

I absolutely love these! I haven’t read the rest of the Shatter Me trilogy yet, but their covers damn. Whoever designed them is so talented. I hadn’t heard of The Names They Gave Us, but that cover definitely makes me want to pick it up haha
